Troop Update January 5, 2010
January 5th, 2010 John R. DeszellHello Troop,
The permission slip for the January campout can be found here: Permission Slip.
Also here is some information about lift ticket vouchers from Mr. Peterson:
Hi, John – For people thinking about going on the January campout (or skiing in general), this would be some good information to pass on…
Shell is offering a deal through mid-April where if you buy 10 gallons of gas at a participating station, you can get a voucher good for buy-one-get-one-free on lift tickets at participating ski resorts. Some of the Shell stations that participate in this include:
- Auburn Hills Shell: 3640 Lapeer Road, Auburn Hills 48326
- Clarkston Shell: 7251 N Main St., Clarkston 48346
- Pine Knob Shell: 6889 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston 48348
- Baldwin Road & I75: 4900 S Baldwin Road, Lake Orion 48359
- Alpine Valley Shell: 6370 Highland Road, White Lake 48383 (none in Waterford or Pontiac)
…and the list of participating ski resorts includes:
- Boyne Highlands
- Boyne Mountain
- Caberfae Peaks
- Hanson Hills
- Mount Bohemia
- Mount Holly
- Nub’s Nob
- Pine Knob
and several others in MI and other states.
If people could participate in this and bring along any vouchers they get for Caberfae to the next Scout meeting, this could really help defray costs for kids to go on the outing.
Thanks!
Mike Peterson

October 11th, 2009 John R. DeszellA message from Mr. Ballew, please contact him with any questions
Attached is information on a 5k run & a 1 mile walk sponsored by Clarkston United Methodist Church. This is for a young girl that is going through some serious cancer treatments. I was hoping we could email this to all our scouts and have them either participate in the run/walk or help out as a community project to earn hours. We need help directing runners around the course, set up and take down. Please let me know if this can be done.

Troop Update October 5, 2009
October 5th, 2009 John R. DeszellHello Troop,
1. We will be meeting downstairs in room 20 tonight because of the rummage sale.
2. The packets for selling wreaths will be distributed tonight by Mr. and Mrs. Harris; they will be due back at the Court of Honor, Monday October 26th.
3. If you have any VG’s receipts, please bring the tonight and turn them in to the Harris’s.
4. On Friday October 9th and Saturday October 10th the Troop will be working at the Halloween Hayride at Drayton Plains Nature Center. This is a fun way of getting some service hours.
We need spooky looking Scouts to help haunt our station at Drayton Plains Nature Center. Scouts should get there by 6pm (rides start at 6:30pm and go till 10 pm.) Scouts should wear appropriate clothing (i.e. dress for the weather: hot, cold, wet etc) under your Halloween costume. We have a different spot on the route this year so Scouts can call/text Nick Vaillancourt when they arrive at the Nature Center (248 701 4045) and he can come get them. There will be another Scout troop at our regular spot so don’t get confused.
We could also use a couple of adults to help Tony supervise.
Last couple of years Troop 51 won first prize for the scariest station along the hayride route! We need your help to keep our record going!!
The Drayton Plains Nature Center is off of Hatchery Road just south of Dixie Hwy, turn at the sign at Edmore Rd & follow the signs, two quick rights onto Denby Rd. 2125 Denby Rd., Waterford, MI 48329.
5. On Saturday October 10th from 12 – 2:30 PM the Troop will be helping clean up after the rummage sale, both youth and adult help is needed. Please come and help our chartering organization that supplies us with a place to meet and store the Troop equipment.
6. Attached is the permission slip for the October campout, it is due on next Monday October 12th, no exceptions. It can also be found on the Troop Website at: http://www.troop51-bsa.com/docs/PermissionSlips/Oct2009.pdf.
7. The next campout is November 6th – 8th as Independent Oaks
